Wisner residents know that storms can happen at any time and power outages are not uncommon. SERVPRO® of Norfolk responds to storm damage emergencies throughout the year and offer some tips for preparing for a power outage from the American Red Cross:
Create a support network. Identify people who can help you stay at home or evacuate during an extended power outage. Keep a paper copy of your contact list.

Wind Damage in Wakefield?
10/4/2021 (Permalink)
We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Stanton County.
SERVPRO® of Norfolk responds to storm damage emergencies throughout the year in Wakefield. High winds can cause structural damage to homes and businesses. Here are some helpful tips for mitigating wind damage:
Traditional Homes
- Keep your home firmly anchored in high winds by having anchor bolts with heavy-gauge, square bolt washers installed to connect your floor to the foundation
- Reinforce the rest of the frame by connecting wall and floor components with properly installed plywood or oriented strand board and attach roof trusses or rafters to the walls with metal connectors
- On existing homes, this can be done when replacing siding
Manufactured Homes
- Manufactured homes are more prone to damage from high winds as a result of non-permanent foundations
- Inspect all straps and tie-downs regularly for rust, weakness, or wear and have repairs made immediately
Windows
- Install windows rated for the wind speeds in your region
- For the best protection in hurricane-prone areas, install impact-resistant permanent shutters that meet applicable building code approved standards

Tornado Warning for Tilden?
9/21/2021 (Permalink)
We are trusted leaders in storm damage mitigation in Madison County.
The average number of tornadoes in Nebraska fell from 51 to 21 in 2020. Scientists attribute this to a dryer summer and the jet stream not being in the position to bring the stronger storms up and into the state. When tornadoes and severe weather do occur, SERVPRO® of Norfolk wants Tilden residents to be safe and offer some tornado safety tips from the American Red Cross:
- Identify a safe place in your home where household members and pets will gather during a tornado. A basement, storm cellar, or an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows.
- In a high-rise building, pick a hallway in the center of the building. You may not have enough time to go to the lowest floor.
- In a mobile home, choose a safe place in a nearby sturdy building. If your mobile home park has a designated shelter, make it your safe place. No mobile home, however it is configured, is safe in a tornado.
- A tornado watch means a tornado is possible
- A tornado warning means a tornado is already occurring or will occur soon. Go to your safe place immediately.

Thunderstorm Safety Tips for Stanton?
8/23/2021 (Permalink)
We mitigate storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in Stanton County.
Weather can be unpredictable in Northeastern Nebraska, and thunderstorms are common, bringing hail, winds gusting over 57 miles per hour, or a tornado to Stanton. When a thunderstorm blows in and damages your home, SERVPRO® of Norfolk has a team of technicians on call and ready to respond to assist you.
Here are some tips from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for staying safe during a thunderstorm:
- When thunder roars, go indoors. A sturdy building is the safest place to be during a thunderstorm.
- Pay attention to weather reports and warnings of thunderstorms. Be ready to change plans, if necessary, to be near shelter.
- When you receive a thunderstorm warning or hear thunder, go inside immediately
- If indoors, avoid running water or using landline phones. Electricity can travel through plumbing and phone lines.
- Protect your property. Unplug appliances and other electric devices.
- If boating or swimming, get to land and find a sturdy, grounded shelter or vehicle immediately
- If necessary, take shelter in a car with a metal top and sides. Do not touch anything metal.
- Avoid flooded roadways. Turn Around Don’t Drown®. Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
